Elder's Council
Established in April 2009, not all elders are in photo and are listed alphabetically: Norman Aguonie, Bill Antoine, Ken Antoine, Eric Corbiere, Rita Corbiere, Lewis Debassige, Mary Ann Endanawas, Joe Endanawas, Gary Josh Eshkawkogan, George Francis, Stella McGraw, Gloria McGregor, Ron McGregor, Urban Mejaki, Alma Jean Migwans, Leona Nahwegahbow, Bertha Roy, Evelyn Roy, Loretta Roy, Gordon Waindubence.
The UCCMM Anishinabek Elder Council of the Mnidoo Mnising was inaugurated at a special ceremony held at the Ojibway Cultural Foundation in M’Chigeeng, April 20, 2009.
Mandate:
The Elders Council is established to work with Anishinabek of the Mnidoo Mnising on all issues concerning Anishinabek. The UCCMM Anishinabek Elder Council of the Mnidoo Mnising will work specifically in addressing and providing guidance and advice on the following:
· Revitalizing and Strengthening our language
· Revitalizing and Strengthening our customs, culture, tradition and ceremonies
· Revitalizing and Strengthening Traditional knowledge
· Revitalizing and Strengthening Traditional land use and resource management
· Strengthening Anishinabek families and communities
· Assist with youth education regarding Anishinabek language, culture and traditions
· Assist in the Anishinabek Justice System
Structure:
The Elders Council membership will consist of elders within the UCCMM and Mnidoo Mnising communities.
· Elder Council guidance and advice will be provided by consensus of the Elder’s Council present at the meeting.
· When required, the Elders Council will report on its recommendations to the UCCMM Leadership.
Schedule:
The Elders Council will meet monthly or as required or at the call of the UCCMM Leadership to address a specific issue that requires immediate attention.
